About Us
The Fishers church of Christ is an established church offering worship services to the Fishers community. We have a core membership of seasoned Christians dedicated to expanding the cause of Christ. Our love for God and for each other strengthens us daily and inspires us to reach out to all. We know that many people are hesitant to attend worship services at an unfamiliar church. To help alleviate any apprehensions you may have regarding this congregation, we would like for you to know who we are and what you can expect when you visit our services.
Jesus promised His apostles, "Upon this rock I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18). It was not founded by any man, but by the Lord Himself. The Bible says, "Except the Lord built the house; they labor in vain that build it" (Psalm 127:1). Therefore, the church belongs to Christ. The scriptures teach that Jesus bought the church with His own blood (Acts 20:28). The congregation at Fishers wears the name of Christ to glorify our Savior to whom we belong. There are several descriptions of the church in the New Testament, including "church of God" (1 Corinthians 1:2), "churches of Christ" (Romans 6:16). "body of Christ" (Ephesians 1:22-23), "house of God" (1 Timothy 3:15), and "kingdom of God's Son" (Colossians 1:13).
The church of Christ has no headquarters on earth, no central office, or a president to adhere to. We have no pope, no council, and no person or group of persons on this earth who control the thousands of congregations that exist throughout the world nor is there any scripture that allows such bodies. The Bible says Jesus is the head of the church (Ephesians 5:23), and God has put all things under His feet (Ephesians 1:22). Because Jesus now sits at the right hand of the Father in heaven (Colossians 3:1), the "headquarters" for the church of Christ is in heaven. Each local church or congregation is and should be autonomous (Acts 14:23; 1 Peter 5:1-3).
The church of Christ is not part of any denomination. We are not connected with the Catholic Church, Mormon Church, denominations in the Protestant Reformation, or any other group. We belong only to God. We strive to follow the pattern for the church that is found in the New Testament in order that today we might be just as the non-denominational church which Jesus founded nearly 2,000 years ago.
The church of Christ does not follow or accept the teachings of men, including human teachings, creed books or other forms of doctrine. We follow the teachings of the Bible alone, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible is God's word, and only its message contains the correct guide to make men free (John 8:32). The Bible is the only authority that we accept at the Fishers church of Christ.
