Do you have the right directions to Heaven? - Proverbs 28

Imagine you planned a road trip to your favorite destination, you create an itinerary, you tell everybody where you are going, and the day comes, and you get in your car and begin driving. You continue driving and then you reflect, and you come to a sudden and dramatic realization that you do not know how to get there. You have been driving for five hours in a trip that should take eight hours, so you decide to stop and ask for directions. The person you ask for directions states they do not know how to get to your destination, but you should be going in the opposite direction. You say thank you and get in your car and start driving in the opposite direction. Five hours later you are still not at your destination!

If we look at Proverbs 28, it primarily focuses on contrasting the consequences of righteousness and wickedness. It emphasizes themes such as honesty, integrity, humility, diligence, and trust in God. Overall, it stresses the importance of moral integrity and obedience to God's commands so that someday we can reach heaven. Proverbs 28:26 says "Those who trust in themselves are fools" - NIV. If I may expand on this, then if we trust anything or anybody over God then we are fools.

Now let us come back to the metaphor. You are planning to get to heaven, you tell everybody you want to go to heaven, and life goes on! What directions are you using? Are you trusting somebody to tell you how to get to heaven? Do they know the right directions?

Are you asking yourself right now do you have the right directions to heaven?

Proverbs 28:26 brought clarity to my heart. The answer is simple: God has given us extremely specific directions. The Bible gives us all the information AND directions we need to get to heaven. All we need to do is trust God and that the directions are correct and follow them faithfully. Let us not be fooled by the wrong directions of the world but let us walk in wisdom and be kept safe by God.
